Best wishes to our Kindergarten class as they head off to First Grade Welcome to our incoming classHave a safe and happy summer. Keep Reading and Writing!

Many of you have asked what you can do over the summer to keep your child on track and ready for first grade.

The following list offers suggestions of skills to work on.

Have your child review sentences from the word books used during the school year.
Continue to review known words with word rings. Learn new words from Dolch word lists.

3.      Visit the Atlantic County Library and choose books your child can read independently.

4.      Read to your child and ask Wh questions to strengthen comprehension. (Who, What, Where, When,                      Why/How).

5.       Have your child identify the main character and important events in stories.

1.       Have your child keep a summer journal.  Have your child write about the things they do/see over the

        summer months.

 2.      Have your child practice writing all uppercase and lowercase letters as well as numbers to thirty.

 1.      Count and recognize numbers to 100.  Practice counting by twos, fives and tens.

 2.      Children should be able to compare numbers 0 – 20. (Ex. Which is more, 5 or 9? - Which is less, 12                             or  14?).  Use playing cards to play numeral games.

3.      Children should be able to add and subtract sums within 10. Use websites like Xtra Math to practice fact           fluency.
